Lower natural gas imports in 2013

The natural gas national consumption amounted last year to 132.6 million MWh, down 8.2 percent against the previous year, the report for natural gas market in 2013, delivered by the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE), reveals.

Romania’s 2012 consumption peaked to 144.5 million MWh for natural gas. The report further shows that in 2013 consumption of natural gas from domestic reserves was 84.72 percent, imports covering 15.28 percent of the demand. The average price level last year was USD 400/1,000 cubic metres. Last year the price varied from USD 409/1,000 cubic metres in January to USD 392/1,000 cubic metres by the end of the interval. The highest level was registered in March, i.e. USD 411/1,000 cubic metres, the lowest level was registered in September, i.e. USD 390/1,000 cubic metres. In 2013 Romania paid for imported natural gas USD 1 billion less than in 2012. According to the National Statistics Institute (INS) Romania imported last year 50 percent less natural gas than in 2012.
