Romania’s Habau PPS Pipeline Systems to build the last section of Romania-Bulgaria gas link

Bulgartransgaz and Transgaz, the gas transmission operators of Bulgaria and Romania, have signed a contract with Habau PPS Pipeline Systems SRL for the construction of the last section of a gas link between the two southeast European countries.

Habau“The completion of the interconnector opens a new page in Bulgaria’s energy sector,” the country’s Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova said at the signing ceremony in Sofia.
The 2.1-km long pipeline section under the Danube River has to be completed in four months. The maximum design capacity of the 25-km long pipeline will be 1.5 billion cubic meters gas per year from Bulgaria to Romania and 500 million cubic meters in the opposite direction.
After the completion of the compressor station in Podisor, Romania will be able to deliver 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas to Bulgaria, stated Grigore Tarsac, Deputy General Director of Transgaz, Member of the Executive Board.
The Ruse-Giurgiu pipeline was initially due to be ready by 2013 and fully operational by 2014, but its completion was delayed several times owing to technical problems with the construction of the underwater section.
In February 2016, Habau won a tender to build the section under the Danube at a cost of EUR 4.577 M free of VAT.

Habau PPS is a Romanian company owned by Austrian Habau Hoch- und Tiefbau GmbH.
PPS Pipeline Systems entered on Romanian market in 2000 starting with several World Bank financed water and gas distribution projects. At that time, in the respective projects, PPS was executing only the project management services through internal employees, all other services and works being subcontracted to Romanian local companies. Habau started the activity in Romania in 2007 having international partners for the logistic park projects in which it was involved. In 2008 the company developed very fast by setting up its own civil department. In 2009 the two companies merged and became Habau PPS Pipeline Systems. Nowadays the company is executing civil construction projects, pipeline construction projects and even EPCC projects being focused on oil and gas industry.
